Lightning Beats Capitals For Eighth Straight Win

The Tampa Bay Lightning (35-20-4) defeated the Washington Capitals (38-14-8) 3-1 on Saturday afternoon in Washington DC. The win is the eighth straight win for the Lightning.

Mitchell Chaffee scored on the power play in the first to get the scoring started, and the score would remain 1-0 heading into the third period. In the third Gage Goncalves scored 6:08 into the frame to make it 2-0. The Capitals pulled within 2-1 when Alex Ovechkin scored at the 16:01 mark, but Brandon Hagel came through with the empty netter to clinch the win for Tampa Bay.

For Alex Ovechkin, it was it was his 31st of the season and 884th in his storied NHL career. He is now ten goals away from tying Wane Gretzky for the most goals in NHL history.

Andrei Vasilevskiy went 20-of-21 in net for Tampa Bay to get the win. The Lightning are next in action when they travel to Florida to take on the Panthers on Monday. Puck drop from Sunrise on Monday is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
