We're "Virtually" Going To The Roots Picnic With Mrs. Obama, DaBaby + More

The 13th annual Roots Picnic has gone virtual this year, but there’s still plenty to love about! Specially this year's host: our beloved former FLOTUS Michelle Obama

While the annual event won’t take place at Fairmount Park in the City of Brotherly Love — hometown of the Roots — the tunes and the message will carry on from the virtual stage on Saturday. This year’s Roots Picnic will partner with Obama’s When We All Vote organization to raise awareness of the importance of voter registration and there will be a call to action for viewers to register throughout the broadcast.

We will get to see performances by Roddy Ricch, H.E.R., G Herbo, SZA, Kirk Franklin, Lil Baby, DJ D-Nice + more. Other celebrities will make virtual appearances throughout the night including: Janelle Monáe, Tracee Ellis Ross, Kerry Washington, Tom Hanks, and Lin-Manuel Miranda.

“Historically, Questlove and Black Thought have always been very active participants in the voting process,” said Shawn Gee, manager of the Roots and president of Live Nation Urban, one of the event’s executive producers. “Our goal is to aggressively impact change, and we’re going to have some fun while doing so.”

The event will stream on YouTube at 8 P.M. this Saturday, June 27th. RSVP at rootspicnic.com/philly/ for digital access to the free show.
