Will Smith is set to make his grand return to the BET Awards this weekend.
On Monday, June 24, BET announced the Academy Award winner and seasoned rapper has joined the lineup as a performer at the BET Awards 2024. According to a press release, the Bad Boy actor is set to debut a brand-new original song during his performance. His anticipated set will mark the first time Smith has been a part of the festivities since he and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith hosted the awards show in 2005. It also comes weeks after Bad Boys: Ride or Die became a smash hit at the box office.
"From his start as a rapper to 'The Fresh Prince' to being a box office king as one of the Bad Boys, Will Smith is truly a global icon, and we are honored to welcome him back to grace the BET Awards stage,” said Connie Orlando, EVP Specials, Music Programming & Music Strategy at BET. "We look forward to Will adding to yet another defining night for the culture that is not to be missed."
Will Smith's been slowly making his way back into the spotlight since his dramatic incident involving Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars. Last year, he returned to the national stage during Grammy Salute to 50 Years of Hip-Hop. Before Bad Boys 4 debuted, Smith joined forces with J Balvin for a nostalgic performance of "Men In Black" at Coachella. He also dropped a new song "Light 'Em Up" with Sean Paul for his new film's soundtrack.
Smith's addition to the lineup will make the BET Awards an event you won't want to miss. GloRilla, Latto, Muni Long, Shaboozey, and more are ready to hit the stage. There will also be a massive performance dedicated to Usher, who's set to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award.
The BET Awards 2024 is happening live on Sunday, June 30 at 8 p.m. on BET.
